Life in pictures

Some pictures of what happened in the first weeks of august: Family reunion with the newlyweds and the twins.   Spending my birthday with friends at the Biergarten on the hottest day of this summer.    Celebrating a friend's wedding in Innsbruck, Austria         My brother visited us last week and helped me with the monsters, since the Hubs was on a training course for a couple of days. I wanted to start complementary feeding but Baby Moomin was not having it :-( i'm going to try again next week. Right now she is sick with a mild flu and i just want her to get better. My mom is arriving next saturday! weeeeeeeeee! x.o.

Month 4

It has been a very very veeeery long month... I've already told you about how babys periodically have growth spurts, well, we are right now in growth spurt #4 and it has been a nightmare! It started around week 14/15 and it's supposed to last until week 19/20! We've had 4 weeks of crying and screaming and mood swings and so on... We have "good" days, bad days and very bad days. Yesterday was a very bad day, the Hubs had to come earlier from work, so i could take a couple of hours off (i went to yoga class). All kids have growth spurts, but not all react the same way. Unfortunately for us, baby Moomin is super susceptible to them, plus we think she has started to teeth :-( I'm amazed at how much drool comes out of such a little mouth and everything is furiously bitten on. She started sleeping from 8 p.m. to 5 or 6 a.m. (yei!), but recently sleep has eluded her. She does not wake up completely, or cry, but she moves a lot and starts making noises and it may not sound that bad, but try to get some sleep next to that! She's 18 weeks old and i'm desperately hoping that it's over soon! The main problem is growth spurts never really end! The next one starts around week 23, which means that we have 3 weeks of relative calm and then it starts all over again :'-( I read about a study, in which it has been proved, that having a baby makes you more unhappy than losing a loved one. Honestly: of course! naturaly, it also depends on your and your baby's character, but it is a lot of work! plus the constant crying gets directly to your core. If you don't have any help from your partner, or family, or friends, it's just worse. Having said that and i have to remind myself of this: that unhappiness will not last forever! your baby is not going to be a crying bundle for it's whole life! That is also one of the most satisfying parts of being a parent: seing your child grow, not only physcally, but mentally and emotionally. As hard as these past weeks have been, it has also been very fascinating to realize everything she has learned. She grabs things and leads them to her mouth, for which she had to recognize her hands and that she can move them. She gets frustrated so fast! it cracks me up! It's like she knows she can do more, but her motor skills are not that developed just yet. She wants to sit already, but her back is still not able to hold her. Being on her stomach is finally working out much better. If it were for her, she would spend the whole day lying on her stomach, but she still gets tired after a while and then the whining starts, because she doesn't want to lay on her back anymore. She is still not rolling over, neither from her back to her stomach, nor the other way around, but a couple of days a go she turned from her stomach to her back accidentally and i think she remembers, because i have seen her trying to do the same movement over and over again, but it's just not working yet. Her temper is also beginning to show, she's quite stubborn, but so adorable! She smiles and laughs and is super curious and always always wants to play :-D Nevertheless. i'm looking forward to more "me time". I do believe it is very important for parents to have some time on their own, to do whatever they want. I'll be happy, when we can finally leave her for a couple of hours with a baysitter, so we can go to the movies, or for a drink... just to refuel yourself with new energy and so be able to deal with all the downs of parenting ;-) BTW: i just noticed on the pictures that one of her cheeks looks a little bit red... teeth!  Have a nice wednesday! x.o. & the days after

The last days in Helsinki were spent over its rooftops and in cafes in the company of friends and with a nice family dinner. I was finally able to see the city at night (and fully apreciate it) since there was still some sunlight at 11 p.m.! And so another family vacation came to an end. It was definitely more stressful with a baby on tow, but nevertheless it was fun :-) And it's not the last vacation of the year! My mother is coming to visit us next month and we are going to my brother's graduation in Dresden and afterwards we're all spending a couple of days in London, since we have never been there before. Baby Moomin is turning 4 months next week! More friends are coming to visit... lot's to do!!! We do have some other news, but i'm waiting for the definite confirmation, so i can finally share with all of you ;-) Until then: have a nice weekend! x.o. Helsinki, Porvoo, the wedding...

the Wedding...

Sooo, let's keep moving shall we? Day 4, the big day, the reason we were in Finland: the wedding! After a somewhat stressful morning in which we got lost on our way to the hairdresser, which meant i had less than 30 minutes to get the baby and myself dressed and ready to go, we took the ferry to the nearby island of Suomenlinna. There is a fortress and a toys museum, but we were so short on time, we didn't get to see them :-( We don't have pictures from the actual wedding ceremony either, because Raul was best man and i had my hands full with a pooping baby (this time i had the pleasure to clean little Moomin's buttocks on top of a toilet seat). But here are some pictures of the wedding party, BTW the motto was something like Concert Festival: the invitations were concert tickets, we got "VIP backstage passes" and the table names were written on vinyl discs. There was tasty food, delicious desserts, a fun photo booth, good music and i swear the drummer of the band looked like a younger Christopher Walken! hahaha... x.o. Helsinki, Porvoo...

Porvoo,...

On our 3rd day in Finland, after having already seen the city, we took a bus to visit the city of Porvoo. There are many buses going from Helsinki throughout the day and it only takes about 50 minutes to get to Porvoo. We just visited the Old Porvoo, which is super cute, with its nice houses and little stores. You can get a lot of hand made stuff and there are a couple of nice restaurants. The streets are all cobblestone, but the little Moomin didn't mind, she likes all the shaking hahaha... BTW it was also our first time changing a diaper in the stroller, because we couldn't find a restroom in which to change her. Since then, we have become pros at diaper changing in the most weird places, even full pooped ones! ;-) We took the bus there because it was raining, but we went back to Helsinki on a ship :-) I think the trip takes around 4 hours and luckily we had our coats, since the weather changed again about an our before we arrived at Helsinki. I will try to post more regularly... It was my birthday last week and we have some big news to share with you!  x.o. Helsinki,...
